Fellas,

Marcin has started working on a new upgrade for LAMS 2.4 branch.

This is a major upgrade for the Authoring UI mainly and it has to do with the HTML online editor that we've been using in the past (FCKEditor).

The latest version of this editor is call now CKEditor as the previous name sounded/looked too much like the F word ;-)

Aside from the name change, this is a significant upgrade that will make LAMS Authoring windows to work a *lot* faster. One of the main issues of this HTML Editor is that for each instance that it loads in the page it takes some time. But it you would have four or more editors in a single page, each instance would take its time to load as they were managed independently from each other.

CKEditor takes the singleton approach and now the code is only loaded once and shared across as many instances as you have/need on the page. That means that improves the client UI processing and loading time heaps.

If you have ever use activities like Assessment or MCQ which make heavy use of these editors you would see that things can get a bit sluggish if you have a few of these editors open. However, now with the CKEditor this is incredibly faster.

Here are the full details if you want to follow this task (LDEV-2577). As you can see, this is a signification change in the UI.

If you are developing LAMS tools, be aware of this please.

Thanks,

Ernie
