Delivery Mode: Classroom if individual computers available, otherwise computer lab.

Resources: Computer & internet access per student

Outline of Activities:
1) Tool: Noticeboard - outline of anticipated lesson outcomes and welcome.

2) Tool: Noticeboard: students are directed to a video animation describing the structures and functions of the human respiratory system. Students advised to listen carefully!

3) Tool: Multiple-choice questionnaire: 6 question summative assessment designed to test knowledge and provide to teacher a basis for the next activity's grouping.

SYNCHRONISATION GATE

4) Tool: Chat & Scribe: Grouped into 4 groups with the teacher assigning the scribe based on best marks received in previous MCQ. Students are asked to share and collaborate and are provided with two scaffolded queries which need to be agreed upon by the end of the chat.

5) Tool: Branching activity - two groups. One views an animation of the path of a Red Blood Cell, followed by a task requiring them to research two websites that may assist in the class learning experience. The other group is required to open-up a website and read through the effects of oxygen; their task is to complete the attached powerpoint file with four effects of oxygen. Both groups (assigned by marks in MCQ) are then required to share their files before leaving the branching activity.

6) Wiki: a final formative assessment tool for which a scaffold has been provide and is designed to foster a demonstration of student factual, conceptual and metacognitive understanding of the respiratory system.
