Sequence Information Sequence: Lesson Plan Use Case for SIF Instructional Services discussion Description: This sequence is to provide a use case (an example) to assist discussion about the SIF Instructional Services specification.
A teacher wants to run a Lesson Plan (eg, in LAMS) of three steps:
(1) View an external Learning Resource (eg, a Learning Object such as TLF)
(2) Do Multiple Choice Test to check knowledge of Learning Object content)
(3) Participate in Discussion Forum to discuss ideas raised by the Learning Object
NB: Each step requires completion of the prior step first.
Some student run-time issues to consider:
(a) How does LAMS send back an overall lesson plan “completion” message to a Gradebook (cf SIF Use Case 1)
(b) How does LAMS send a Multiple Choice score back to a Gradebook (cf SIF Use Case 2)
(c) How does LAMS send a Teacher judgement on the student’s Discussion Forum comments against an expected competency (eg, “critical thinking shown/not shown) to a Gradebook (cf SIF Use Case 3)Some teacher preparation issues to consider:
(i) How does the teacher find and choose a Learning Object for Step 1?
(ii) How does a teacher share the Lesson plan with other teachers (so they can find and re-use it)?
(iii) How is the structure of the Lesson Plan described so that another system could replicate this functionality (eg, how do you describes sequencing of SIF “Activities” and “Assessments” in the “Lesson Plan” field?)NB: Point (iii) illustrates the need for a “Simplified” version of a Learning Design specification.
