I'm a Moodle user for a number of years and am thinking about using LAMS. I have some content in SCORM format that I'd like to import and then update. Can I do this in LAMS? I see that LAMS can work with IMS content but am not sure how this relates to SCORM packaging? I would be grateful for any guidance on this. (Failing that, I need to find a system that will allow me import the SCORM content and edit it - if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd live to hear them - but apart from that I'm looking for an excuse to use LAMS - I just never had a specific project for it before).

Hi Brian,

LAMS supports IMS CP which is also used by SCORM for packaging a course. However, if you import a SCORM package into LAMS, it would display the content, but it won't do any of the SCORM runtime stuff. So it might not do what you want to do.

In terms of Editor for SCORM, the Reload project had a good SCORM 1.2 creating/editing tool. It's very simple to use for packaging content into SCORM or IMS CP.

A few years ago, working for another project, I created a little manual for it. Hope that helps.

Having a SCORM tool in LAMS is in the plans. However, it has shown to be quite a complicated implementation and the existing open source SCORM runtime environments for Java that we have tried haven't shown to be very robust or stable. Hopefully that changes shortly.

Thanks,

Ernie
