Hi Everyone,

Good news!

We are aiming to release LAMS 2.0 Beta1 at the end of this week! (therefore the silence really quite forums we've been having in the past month or so :-)

Of course, we are very happy to see this rolling out after such a long time!

For those who have been using LAMS2.0 alpha, beta1 is a significant improvement. We have now a complete Authoring, Monitor, Admin environments and about 10 tool activities. Instead of dummy JSPs pages to manage Monitor and Learner as we had in the beta, now we have their proper Flash interfaces.

Also, the support for languages has included most of these modules and tools as you can see in the internationalization site. Now volunteers are translating LAMS to 17 different languages and the translators have their own server to test them properly (and a preview into the LAMS 2.0 beta... well, the perks for being a translator! ;-)

Having said that though, this is still a Beta version, which means that is not bug free and we wouldn't necessary suggest to use with real students (unless they don't mind a few bugs). In addition, teachers that want to get their hands dirty are encourage to use it now as most of the functionality and features are there.

We have put now our bug tracker available for everyone to follow its progress and we expect to have a stable version of LAMS 2.0 by September.

There are just a few critical bugs that are holding us back from the beta1 release, but we believe we'll be alright by the deadline. We are *significantly* improving the look and feel and we are aiming to add this to beta1 as well (although that might need a few extra days).

Remember that you can now download the source code and build LAMS 2.0 as of today by following the instructions in the wiki.

If you are in the UK and want to have a hands on experience with 2.0 beta1, James will be presenting it at the London Knowledge Lab on July 4th.

So, if everything goes according to plan, and we kill the critical bugs, we should be able to announce Beta1 by Friday! cross your fingers! :-)

Thanks,

Ernie

Ok fellas,

As we (kind of) expected the new design (see 1 2 3 4 5) is a bit of a nightmare to apply to our existing pages :-(. Therefore we still with only 8 bugs/tasks to get this out of the door.

We'll keep working over the weekend and hopefully we'll get this release properly on Monday.

Again, if you don't mind some learner pages a bit out of whack, you can build the prebeta now (that's what the translators are using now).

G'day everyone,

LAMS2.0 Beta1 is now out for you to build. It has a really nice new look and feel all across as you can see in the feature list.

If you want to start developing LAMS, Beta1 is the platform to use. The Building LAMS page in the Wiki has now been updated to make it easier to install and build. If you need help, please use the forums.

Personally, I want to thank the LAMSdev team for this achievement! All the credit for putting together LAMS goes to them:

* Fiona Malikoff
* Jun-Dir Liew
* Fei Yang
* Dapeng Ni
* Anthony Sukkar
* Ozgur Demirtas
* Pradeep Sharma
* Mitch Seaton
* Yoichi Takayama

We still have some fair bit to go for the LAMS2.0 stable release, but we are getting there.

Thanks,

Ernie
