2nd International LAMS Conference - Sydney, Nov 26-29th
After the success of the recent European LAMS Conference (see below), we're pleased to announce the 2nd International LAMS Conference, to be held in Sydney in late November, 2007 at Macquarie University. The theme for this conference is "Practical Benefits of Learning Design" - we welcome presentations about the use of LAMS as well as other approaches to Learning Design. The main conference is on November 26th from 9am-5pm. Following feedback from past conferences, we will include a dedicated stream for people who are new to LAMS, as well as a special stream for those using LAMS in Teacher Education. These dedicated streams are in addition to two streams of general presentations. On November 27th from 10am-4pm we'll be hosting hands-on workshops for both beginner and advanced users - all welcome. On November 28th and 29th, we are hosting a LAMS "Train the Trainer" workshop for experienced LAMS users - this workshop is by invitation, so if you are interested to participate, please email us with details of your LAMS experience. The call for presentations/papers is now open - submissions are due by September 17th (responses by October 1st). For all conference details, see Thanks to all the presenters and attendees (over 70!) at the European LAMS Conference in London on July 5th - it was a great event all round. Special thanks to Simon Walker of the University of Greenwich for hosting and helping to organise the event, to Diana Laurillard for her keynote presentation, and to our Gold Sponsors, Eduserv and JISC. We've managed to put together slides and audio recordings for over half the presentations (including the two keynotes) - see NB: For any presenters reading this who haven't yet sent in their slides, please email me if you'd like them added. Jeremy Page has done a great job putting together a new documentation website all about how to use LAMS, incorporating his animated tutorials - see The wiki for all technical details about LAMS has been restructured to make it easier to find information, see I know many LAMS users are eagerly awaiting LAMS V2.1, particularly new features like branching. The LAMS/RAMS development team is working hard on this, and it will be another month or so before it is ready for community testing, but there are some live screenshots and discussion of branching in my keynote from the European LAMS conference. The "stable" production V2.1 release will be late this year. I've recently posted an extended message about branching in V2.1 (and V2.2) to the LAMS Community (originally from a Sakai mailing list discussion) - see: I am regularly asked about who is using LAMS around the world - but it's not easy to answer because open source means everyone is welcome to use LAMS without needing to let us know. Still, we'd like to start putting together a list of known LAMS sites around the world, so the initial list is at: If you're not here but would like to be listed, please email me. I also often get asked about the scalability of LAMS in real world trials. We have started to put together information on this, starting with a great test of LAMS at Huazhong Normal University in China, who recently tested LAMS with 180 concurrent users. For details of the hardware and software setup, and charts on system performance, see Many thanks to great team at Huazhong Normal University (the LAMS International partner in China) for conducting this test and making the results available! LAMS can run on mobile or wireless devices that can access the internet in the usual way provided they also support the Flash plug-in for their web browser. We recently successfully tested LAMS on a "Nova5000" handheld tablet - for details and links to pictures, see Posted by James Dalziel |
