2009 European LAMS Conference: Abstracts Due Mon 23rd March
Abstracts for presentations/papers are due by Monday March 23rd for the 2009 European LAMS & Learning Design Conference - please email to lamsconfadmin@lamsfoundation.org In addition to the main LAMS conference on Tuesday 7th July, there will be a Pedagogic Planner summit on the 6th and a CETIS "Design Bash" on the 8th. The Design Bash will provide a great opportunity for informal discussion and questions in a less structured format than the conference - more details soon. LAMS Training workshops will be held 6, 8 & 9th. The conference is at the Open University in Milton Keynes, UK - for all details see: Upcoming V2.3 Feature: Time Graphs The LAMS V2.3 release (due mid year) will have many great new features - one of them is "Time Graphs". These graphs show how much time students spend on each activity in a sequence, as well as a comparison to the average for all students. This feature helps teachers identify difficult activities that take all students longer than other activities. It also identifies individual student difficulties where they take much longer on an activity than their peers. For an introduction to Time Graphs, see Great interactive sequence with video, audio & images Rachel Filler has uploaded a great sequence to the LAMS Community that illustrates rich interactive activities with audio, video, images and more. The sequence is about the Food Chain for younger students, but even it you teach at a different level, the use of interactivity is great to see - thanks Rachel! Online Video of Open Education Presentation Late last year I gave a presentation on the principles of Open Education for the launch of the new University of Queensland Centre for Education Innovation and Technology (CEIT). The presentation provides an overview of Open Education in general, including a case study from LAMS. A video recording of this presentation is now available on the web - warning it is a very large file (120Meg)! See LETSI Comment on Collaborative Learning A new industry consortium called LETSI is exploring the future of SCORM (a widely used format for e-learning content). As part of a consultation process on the LETSI assumptions document, I provided brief feedback on the importance of collaborative learning activities, and this has since been posted as a blog entry on the LETSI website with a response.
