Once I create a lesson how do I add students? Do I create them as users?

Hi Ceridwyn,

You can create the users manually (see sysadmin menu) or using a spreadsheet.

I think the Sysadmin guide will be a great place to start with all this.

Thanks Ernie,

My next question is how do my students log in? I downloaded 2.4 to my laptop and have added students as you suggest but what link do I give them to log in? It appears as though the link I use to log in is based on my computer i.e. sending the link to others to click on doesn't work. I know I must be missing something really simple as the whole point of this is to be able to interact online.

Hi Ceridwyn,

Does your laptop has a fixed IP in your network?

If not, you probably might want to install LAMS on a computer/server that has a fixed IP so student can connect to it from other laptop/computers.

Here are the instructions on how to install LAMS as a production server for windows.

If you do have a fixed IP, let me know and I think I can provide you some instructions on how to use your laptop as a server though.

Cheers,

Ernie

Ceridwyn,

I've just had a look at the installer (it's been a while) and if you have a set IP, then that's what you should enter when you are installing LAMS, see here in the first screen that comes up:

You can set your IP if this is fixed though (see where it says domain name), for instance:

Note that also you can set up the port in which LAMS is running on (by default is 8080). Just make sure that you have a proper firewall rule in place to allow incoming call to your computer on that particular port.

Thanks

Ernie
