To get you thinking about LAMS this year you might like to have a look at another case study I have added here:
http://www.melcoe.mq.edu.au/projects/LAMS@MQ/caseStudies.htm Few teaching staff ever assess online chat, but Leanne Cameron and Nick Hutchinson did this last semester. With good results. They have been very proactive in their use of LAMS with education students. I have always thought of chat as a tool that's good for helping students work towards more formal writing. So, if I was going to assess online discussions it would most likely be via an asynchronous forum - rather than the very informal chat. But Leanne and Nick have been innovative and assessed student chat sessions - using a carefully structured approach and preparing students well before hand. They have students authoring in LAMS as well, so they are becoming very knowledgeable about what works and what doesn't work in LAMS! Posted by Robyn Philip |
