Hi Greg,

You could try the following – To give students the reading text, you can either upload it as a document (word for example) in the Shared Resources activity. Alternatively you can copy and paste the text into a Noticeboad tool – the students will then see the reading as a type of webpage. Then you could follow up the reading using a Multiple Choice quiz. And then next use the Question and answer tool which will allow students to give a longer answer and justify their answer. With this tool the other students will be able to see everyone else’s answer afterwards (but not until they have answered the question themselves). If this is not suitable, you could use the survey tool where there are three types of questions, one of which is – open answer so students can write a longer answer. At all stages during the sequence, students can re-read the text by clicking on the tool in the progress bar in the left hand side.

Please feel free to call us (02) 98504156 if you would like me to step you through this process.

Karen,
Thanks for the suggestion, however it seems a bit like shifting a pile of dirt using a toy bucket. You can certainly do it but one trip with a wheel barrow would be much easier and less intimidating.
I didn't realise that students could go back - If I can't do it any other way will have to make do with this method.

I think it is important that students can easily move back and forward between the text and the questions. I think that the question and answer tool would be really useful in helping students learn from each other in an activity like this.

Perhaps the developers may consider this as a future feature.
