Hi Greg,
Sounds like LAMS is really taking off in your neck of the woods! When I was at Glenorie Public School, my Stage 3 (Yr 5-6) Gifted and Talented students developed simple sequences for their buddies in Stage 1 (K-1). This was after the students had been using LAMS v1 as Learners for quite sometime. Not only did it engage our Stage 1 students, but it helped my students to consider learning design, evaluate their own (and others') sequences and ensure that their audience would receive high quality content delivered in an interesting, innovative way. The sequences were not all the same. They worked in groups of 2-3 to design them and I also helped to evaluate them before they were released to the St1 students. Some of them even developed sequences for their peers. This was also an interesting exercise because my GATS students' reputations were on the line! If the sequences had any mistakes in design, spelling, accuracy, the rest of my class were constructive critics. This had a flow-on effect because a few other students were adventurous enough request Author rights to construct sequences. Not all children wanted to do this but I was surprised by a couple of my seemingly less-techno and less-engaged boys who just thrived when given this privilege. All over, a very empowering learning opportunity. Debbie Evans ex- Ass. Principal Posted by Debbie Evans |
