Hi Robin,
It seems that the API v2 that we use has been deprecated: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/v2/introduction#Obtaining_Key. Although it will work until May, 2013; I have created a task to change this for their API v3 instead. Neverthless, you can still use V2. Here's what you do. Click Google's APIs Console at https://code.google.com/apis/console. You'll be asked to login with a gmail user. You'll see then: Then scroll click on Services and scroll down to "Google Maps API v2" and turn that "On": Now go to API Access and click on "Create new Server Key"... Complete enter the domain for your server (make sure you include the /lams/ at the end): Click "Create" and then you'll have your key: Copy/paste that into the Tool management for GMap tool in the Sysadmin menu... and voila!
