We ran into problems with the chat server and Firefox 3 on linux and windows platforms. The chat compenent never loads. Has anyone else tested or noticed this? If there any plan to update the chat component to use a newer version of the Openfire chat server?

Hi Dave,

We can confirm this on FF3 on windows XP - the chat doesn't work. Seems to work fine in FF2 and IE7 though ...

So i guess the next question is this: Is there any plan to update the chat component to use a newer version of the Openfire chat server?

I haven't looked into this myself. I am not sure if it would run alongside LAMS or how much intergration there is.

Once that it's confirmed and fixed, we'll release a patch for it.

Fellas,

Just a quick update on this:

Yesterday Antonio had a look at this issues and since it has updated the javascript library we use for the chat client and it works now.

However, there's a minor issue with loading the previous chat history in FF3. So after that's fixed (hopefully in the next day or two) we'll release a patch.

The attached file can be used to upgrade LAMS 2.1 to LAMS 2.1.1

This patch fixes the chat problems with firefox 3. See http://bugs.lamsfoundation.org/browse/LDEV-1876

Please follow the installation instructions in the readme file.
