Outline of Activities: Students watch a video on Climate Change and discuss its causes, effects, and potential solutions

Activity 1
Warm-up activity (speaking)
•    to activate Ss’ relevant content schemata and prior knowledge of the topic of climate change,
•    to encourage students to talk about climate change using visual stimuli (pictures)

Activity 2 (watch a video and fill in a graphic organizer/mind map)
Overall aim of the activity: to develop students’ listening skills and raise their awareness on the complex issue of climate change
Objectives /Expected outcomes:
Students will be able
•    to understand the content of a video concerned with the contemporary problem of “climate change” in which particular stances or viewpoints are adopted (CEFR B2 Level)
•    to understand the complex issue of climate change, its causes and its effects and possible solutions (CEFR B2 Level)
•    to display their understanding of the video content by organizing and categorizing key information  through the use of a mind map (cause and effect links, solutions)
•    to use their critical thinking and problem solving skills
•    to interact orally with their peers (informal discussion) and collaborate within a group to reach a consensus and produce work by selecting appropriate information to fill in or create a mind map
•    to account for and sustain their opinions in discussion by providing relevant explanations, arguments and comments (CEFR B2 Level)

Activity 3
Overall aim of the activity: to develop students’ speaking skills by discussing the potential impact of climate change at a national/regional/local level/to talk about scenarios in the future using appropriate grammatical structures
Objectives/Expected outcomes:
Students will be able
•    to talk about hypothetical situations/scenarios in the future i.e. the potential impact of climate change at a national/regional/local level/ using the 2nd type of conditionals or other appropriate grammatical structures i.e. modals

Activity 4 (online quiz)
Overall aim of the activity: to assess students’ knowledge on climate change, raise their awareness on their personal impact on the environment and discuss possible solutions
Objectives/Expected outcomes:
Students will be able
•    to assess their knowledge and personal impact on the environment
•    to discuss practical ways in which they can integrate solutions into their daily routines, making sustainable practices a part of their lifestyle
•    to propose potential solutions or adaptive strategies to address the problem of climate change
•    to take an active part in informal discussion, commenting, putting a point of view clearly, evaluating alternative proposals and making and responding to hypotheses (CEFR B2 Level)

Activity 5 (exit slip)
Overall aim of the activity: to assess students’ understanding of the topic discussed
Objectives/Expected outcomes:
Students will be able
•    to summarise and reflect on the information learned
•    to express their overall opinion on the problem of climate change and support it with logical and concisely expressed arguments (CEFR B2 Level)
