I currently have the first version of lAMS installed at school. This is the version that came on the CD from ACE. I assume it is version 1.0.1. I like LAMS but found a bug that some learners were not delivered full sequences. I am told this issue was to be addressed in v 1.0.2.

Now that v 1.0.2 is available I have a couple of questions.

1. I want to deploy LAMS on a new system Can I obtain a similarly package full version of LAMS v 1.0.2. By this I mean one where SQL and everything else comes together with LAMS and the installation is as sweet and simple as from the original CD? or should I install LAMS v1.0.1 first from the CD I have then upgrade to v1.0.2

2. I started to look at MOODLE but found the isntallation a lot klunkier than for LAMS - so I never completed installing MOODLE. Now I see that LAMS and MOODLE are integrated. Can I get on CD or installer that installs both LAMS v1.0.2 and MOODLE?

BTW. Whilst I am reasonably tech-savvy I am in a controlled computer environemnt where I am not the SA - hence the need for simple installation solutions.

1. The installer for 1.0.2 is unlike the original 1.0.1 installer in that it doesn't bundle MySQL and Java anymore. That makes it about a third of the size it used to be, but you must ensure you have Java and MySQL installed before installing LAMS 1.0.2 (there are Windows oriented guides for these on the LAMS Foundation website)

2. There's no combined installer for LAMS and Moodle ... you'll still need to have Moodle installed before you can setup an integration between the two.

Just expanding from Jun-Dir postings. The short answer is NO.

Unfortunately, and due to some licensing issues, we cannot bundle all you need in LAMS V1.0.2. I know, it's annoying and all, but that's lawyers crap (see at the end about what I personally think about lawyers) :-p

Nevertheless, we have created really simple and easy to use Installation guides that walk you thru the whole process of installing everything you need before you install LAMS (see in the downloads page (http://lamsfoundation.org/downloads).

There are actually a few places that make it quite easier to install Moodle (http://goohio.com/moodle/, http://www.easyphp.org/, etc). Also Moodle.org has a special forum *just* to deal with installation instructions and help people getting it going. You might want to have a look in there.

As far as LAMS&Moodle, you can have a look at the integration page (http://lamsfoundation.org/integration/moodle). In there you'll find the LAMS code you need to add to Moodle, and the installation instructions on how to put both of them together.

I hope that helps,

Ernie

Joke about lawyers:

The devil visited a lawyer's office and made him an offer. "I can arrange some things for you, " the devil said. "I'll increase your income five-fold. Your partners will love you; your clients will respect you; you'll have four months of vacation each year and live to be a hundred. All I require in return is that your wife's soul, your children's souls, and their children's souls rot in hell for eternity."

The lawyer thought for a moment. "What's the catch?" he asked.
