G'day Peter,
Thanks for the questions. Indeed, the LAMS Community uses .LRN as a platform. We have done some changes to it to accommodate for the LAMS sequence repository, but other than that, it uses most of .LRN features, a great platform if I might add > 1. Option for the author to edit or delete his/her messages. Let me look into that, but it does have some important implications. For instance when you delete a message in the forums all replies to that message *will* also be deleted. So not only your message will be deleted, but all messages from all people that reply to yours will also be gone. We do have RSS feeds for news and the LAMS public repository (http://lamscommunity.org/lamscentral/rss), so every time a new sequence gets added you receive the update on the feed. Now, for forum postings, instead of using RSS feeds you can request email notifications. These notifications can be daily, weekly or instant. For instance if you choose instant, as soon as a message is posted, you will receive it on email. You can reply to that email from your email client and it will be posted to the LAMS Community (yes, .LRN has a wonderful email gateway). Therefore the reason to use email notifications on emails instead of RSS feeds. Hope that helps, Ernie Posted by Ernie Ghiglione |
