I am trying to install LAMS and getting very frustrated. I have installed Java SDK 1.4.2 and MySQL 4.1 with no error messages.

I then install LAMS again with no error messages but when I launch the login page I get the following error:

HTTP Status 500 - No Context configured to process this request

I am keen to investigate LAMS and its potential so any help would be appreciated.

What's the URL you are using?

Any errors in the logs?

I'm not sure what I've done differently but it is now working OK.

I will try a few more installs just ot make sure.

Hi Andy,

It could have been that you clicked on the link too fast?

Tomcat/JBoss take a bit to kick in after you start it... usually about 45 seconds in an Intel P4 machine, even upto a minute in some Macs.

If you try to access the LAMS app before that time, you might get a 404 or the 500 error you get.

Let us know if you find something.

Thanks,

Ernie

Here's some of the common reasons why you can get a 500 error after installing:

MySQL not running before LAMS has started;
Accessing http://localhost instead of http://localhost/lams;
Accessing http://localhost/lams before LAMS has finished starting up;
Incorrect Java version (the 1.4.2 SDK from Sun is recommended) - e.g. Java 1.5, Blackdown Java are known not to work with LAMS 1.0 - check your JAVA_HOME;
You installed the 20060116 build, and are trying to start LAMS offline (with no connection to the internet);
Conflicting ports;

Basically, if something goes wrong during startup, 'HTTP 500' will be the error you get when you try to access LAMS through the browser, if you get that far. It's kind of the 'catchall' error. For example, this thread: http://www.lamscommunity.org/dotlrn/clubs/technicalcommunity/forums/message-view?message_id=85085

If you're still getting a 500 error, feel free to email me your server.log and boot.log from your $JBOSS_HOME/server/default/log directory.

Regards,
