Hi,

on my server RedHat EL4, mysql5 is not available and there are other applications on mysql4 databases.

Can I install lams2 and mysql on different servers in Internet?

Will be a bottleneck for the performances?

sorry for my english..
TIA

Roberto,

You can install LAMS2 and MySQL on two different servers.

In the LAMS 2.0.4 installer for Unix/Linux there is a section in the readme file "Setting up MySql on a Different Server" which describes how to configure the MySQL part ready for the LAMS installation.

We planned people to do this if the servers were on the same internal network and so there would be a very good network link between the two servers. When the two servers are "near" each other on the network there should not be a bottleneck for the performance.

But you have mentioned the Internet. If the two servers are in two different places on the Internet then you might have a performance bottleneck. LAMS2 does many many calls to the database. It all depends on how good the link is between the two servers.

Also, if the servers are on two different parts of the network, there will need to be a hole in the firewall to allow access to MySQL (I think it is on port 3306).

Does this help?
