Hi fellas,

We've been introducing LAMS 1.1 little by little to the community in the past couple of weeks so you can get an idea how it will look like.

Last week we open the Wiki for everyone to have a look at the way LAMS 1.1 is put together, and in fact, how it's different from the current 1.0.x architecture.

LAMS 1.1 is a complete re-write of LAMS based on a different more modular architecture. Some of you might already read some of the technical documentation we've been producing in the past few year, so in order to summarize for you the list of features and improvements of LAMS 1.1 we have now a new page in the wiki that shows you mainly two things:

1.- List of all LAMS 1.1 features
2.- Current development stage with animations and pictures so you can see how we are putting it together.

This feature list will be constantly updated as soon as we progress thru the 1.1 development. As you can see at this stage, we've been working mainly on Authoring, Tools and the Progress Engine. The next steps in 2006 will be finishing up Authoring, Monitor (mainly the Flash interface) and the activity tools.

You can keep track of the progress of LAMS 1.1 by subscribing to this Forum thread. We'll be posting updates on 1.1 here.

If you have questions and/or comments regarding the feature list, animations, images, etc... please post them here. We'll do our best to answer them over the holiday session, but otherwise, please be patience. We'll be back in January at full-speed.

Happy holidays and best wishes to all in the new year.

Thanks,

Ernie

Ernie,

Your feature list link appears to be broken (an extra http I think?)

we would be glad to integrate adodb to LAMS 1.1 so that the greater richness of postgresql can be used instead of mysql. We have decided to go with postgresql now because of the cloud over innodb in Mysql (being bought out by Oracle is not a good sign to us) and now postgresql has 8.1, which is really great, and a native version for windows. Another suggestion relates to both Derby and Berkeley DB as possible candidates as well. This would make sense for the Moodle/LASMS integration.

G'day Michael,

LAMS 1.1 uses hibernate, which in principle allows you to use almost any database you need//want.

About a month ago, Yoichi did an analisys to migrate to Postgres and we concluded that while it wasn't trivial, it wasn't really hard either. The main tasks of a port are:

* Port the creation sql scripts to the another db (datamodel shemas)
* and do some minor changes in the configuration scripts

(also some tuning wouldn't be a bad idea)

At the moment, we will continue with MySQL, but it will be great if someone in the community can help out with these ports in the future.

Michael,

Sorry about this late reply... being on a tour lately.

That is great news! We shall be able to start working on this in about a months time.

Thanks,

Ernie

The features are nice.

Can you advise when you are planning a release.

I hope the integrations with other LMS are going to stay (MOODLE)?

Garry,

See this posting for further details.

LAMS 1.1 and Moodle are going to be integrated in the future as well.

Thanks,

Ernie
