Hi Everyone,

If you want to help testing the new LAMS 2.4 Windows installer, please email me so I can send you the link.

This is an installer *not* and upgrader. So you will need to have no previous version of LAMS installed.

This LAMS version will easily run on a laptop and it's actually aim to be mainly use for personal purposes. Although it's a full LAMS (not a cut down version).

Minimal requirements Win XP, 1GB RAM and 350MB disk space.

I have tested this in Win XP, 2008 (32 and 64 bits) and Win 7.

My favourite part: no pre-required software needed. Just install-and-play!

So far this is working well, so hopefully we'll have them out by the end of this week! (hopefully!).

The installer does include wildfire but not the media server.

You'll need to configure an external media server for the video functions to work.

Red5 (the media server) is waaay too big to include in the installer. Additionally, if we do include it, it will increase the complexity all installer tasks a lot.

In this 2.4 release, we are trying to change that by simplifying it an making it easier to use/install.

Previously, I think we were focusing on System administrators to install LAMS. As they would need to install all these other components separately, configuring them accordingly and then install LAMS.

Now we are focusing on teachers that want to create LAMS on their desktops/laptops and then upload the sequences to their school servers to run them with students.
