Just adding a bit more to this. One of the very cool things that LAMS 1.0.2 and 2.0 allow you to do when integrating it with different LMSs is that you can have only *one* LAMS server and have it integrated with as many other Moodle, Blackboard, Sakai, .LRN, WebCT servers as you want.

That means one LAMS server can treat several LMS as if they would have their own LAMS instance and users from one server won't interfere with another integrated server.

For instance here at Macquarie University, there are a couple of departments that run their own Moodle servers and we provide them with LAMS2 for their servers. So they only need to maintain their Moodle server and don't worry to manage the LAMS server, which we do it for them. Also since we have to maintain only one server is quite simple on our side as well.
