Chat requires the installation of a jabber server. Have a look at the installation and configuration instructions here:

Hi Ernie -

I'm getting what sounds like the same issue, and have checked that the jabber server is installed with the wildfire install.

Basically, all works fine in Firefox (3.0.15), but we get problems with both Chrome (3.0.195.33) and IE (8 & 7).

In Chrome, we get the same situation described by Luo Sha above, whereby users don't see themselves listed in the chat participants window, and only see historical chat entries, no new entries.

IE just hangs whilst trying to open the chat window.

When we login with Firefox, as I say, users appear in the participants list and can contribute messages as expected, but additionally we see the following two messages:

//32-character string\\@conference.//servername\\
This room is locked from entry until configuration is confirmed.

followed by:
//32-character string\\@conference.//servername\\
This room is now unlocked.

(I have put the slash-enclosed parts in place of our actual server name, etc.)

We are using Wildfire 2.6.2 and LAMS 2.3.2

Any ideas what the issue might be?

Best wishes -- Tony

Hi Antony,

For the "This room is now locked" messages, make sure that you configure wildfire security settings as it's described in the wiki page. See http://is.gd/5jCdJ

I'll do a test with Chrome and IE and get back to you.

Hi Antony,

I think the problem might be with the configuration of Wildfire in LAMS. If you have installed the wildfire server in the same box as LAMS, then in the LAMS configurations settings you need to make sure that LAMS points to the same domain as specified in the wildfire config (see the two pictures attached).

Also, I tested it with IE8 and Chrome and it works fine. Thanks,
