Yeah, lams is terrific.
But what about logging out ? I want to switch profile quickly, well... for testing purposes... I've managed to by deleting JSESSIONID cookie... but that is kind of "oh not too handy".
I must have missed a logout button, where is it ?

definitely that was kind of a stupid question, in order to log out and switch profile, say to test something as a learner, you just have to close all of the browsers windows or tabs opened on lams server. Anyway I think a logout button could add clarity to the environment.

It's certainly a common question from students, i.e. "do I have to logout?". On the other hand, the web email software we use locally warns that, having logged out, you also have to close the browser window! :-) The Exit button looks rather inviting but does something else... (in fact, I think there's a discussion about the Exit button going on in the technical community).

Hi Michele,

Good to see you around here as well :-)

Yes, there's no logout button in LAMS.

And as far as I know, it has never been one.

The reason for this is the integrations. Once you use LAMS with other servers logouts are a painful issue. For instance, say you use LAMS & Moodle. The way the integration works is that LAMS becomes a "slave" of Moodle (for all user management and course admin purposes). So if you login into Moodle and the click to open a LAMS sequence (in LAMS of course), LAMS will log you in automatically and launch the sequence. Even if your user doesn't exist in LAMS, it will be created on the fly.

Now, you have the situation where you have two systems that to the end user (learner) they seem like one. What happen if you logout from one and not the other? Then the whole nightmare starts. Say you logout of LAMS and not Moodle. LAMS would kick you out to Moodle, but since you are already in Moodle, you won't need to asked to login again!... so it might end up being very confusing.

Nevertheless, we should have a logout button for standalone LAMS. We'll work on that for our future releases.

As of now, closing the browser is the only way to logout completely.

Thanks,

Ernie

I'm looking forward to a log out button in the future too. In the meantime, for cases where you are switching profile (eg, authoring in one account, then using a separate learner account to try things), you can use two different browsers to do this at the same time - that is, log in with your teacher account using Firefox, then log in with the learner account using Internet Explorer.

Of course, if all you want to do is just see how the learner side looks, then you can click "Preview" on the top right of the Authoring page.
