Good Morning everybody,

We have set up Lams2.2 in 2 following Servers on behalf of HOU(http://www.eap.gr) of Greece:
Production Server (http://lams.eap.gr/lams )
Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise Edition
P4 Xeon 1G RAM

Experimental Server (http://labpc1.eap.gr/lams)
Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise Edition
P4 3 Ghz 3G RAM
Two servers have different hardware, different hostname but exactly the same installations of Lams2.2(versions of Mysql,Java,Openfire, db names, passwords).
Another difference between them is that, Lams22 in production server has setup from upgrade from previous Lams version, and in experimental clean install Lams22.

I tried the backup-restore procedure of Lams. I used backup-Lams.exe from production server to take backup. Then I copied backup to the experimental server, I executed restore-Lams.exe from C://lams folder of this server, following the instructions (http://wiki.lamsfoundation.org/display/lamsdocs/Revert+To+Windows+Backup ) but it didn’t worked. The restore wizards ends successfully the but when I try
http://localhost/lams (I have change listen port) returns nothing.Jboss works when I try http://localhost .

I tried manual alternatives backup (http://wiki.lamsfoundation.org/display/lamsdocs/Revert+To+Other+Backup )
1. I placed experimental ‘s server hostname in production server, I took backup and I used this backup on experimental so as there is no difference in network settings of 2 servers.
2. I tried with manual backup-restore of mysql dump file to mysql.
But it didn’ work too.

I would very grateful if somebody could help me how I could restore the Lams22 with all data to a new server.

Thanks

Hi Dionysios

I'm not sure what happened when you used the restore-lams.exe, but if you could post the startup logs from C:\lams\jboss-4.0.2\server\default\log, then that might say something about why it didn't start up - up to you if you want to follow this up :)

With the manual backup, you need to restore at least 2 things to get lams running - the database, and also the C:\lams\jboss-4.0.2\server\default directory. This contains the lams.ear and a few jboss config files. It may be easier to simply backup the whole C:\lams, which is what the wiki suggests. Did you remember to restore the C:\lams files as well as the database?

Do you mean the server's machine name, or LAMS' ServerURL? You don't need to update the machine's name, but when restoring a backup, you do need to update the ServerURL depending on the URL you are restoring the server to. However if you get this wrong it won't stop LAMS from starting up.

Addendum:

I mentioned you need at least 2 things to restore to get lams running - but to get lams fully functional, you also should restore the content repository (usually C:\lams\repository) and the Wildfire database (usually C:\Program Files\Wildfire\embedded-db if you chose to use the embedded database).
