BigBlueButton (http://www.bigbluebutton.org) is an open source project that is built on over fourteen open source components to create an integrated web conferencing system that runs on mac, unix, or PC computers.

It supports the following capabilities:

Web Cam. Multiple users can share their Web cam at the same time. There is no built-in limit on the number of simultaneously active webcams.

Presentation. The presenter can upload any PDF presentation, office documents and keep everyone in sync with their current page, zoom, pan, and see the presenters mouse pointer.

Integrated VoIP. BigBlueButton voice conferencing supports voice over IP (VoIP) conferencing out-of-the-box. All your students need are speakers and a microphone to participate.

Desktop Sharing. Go beyond slides. The presenter can broadcast their desktop for all students to see. Works on mac, Unix, and PC.

BigBlueButton has already been integrated into other Open Source Projects like Moodle, Sakai, ...

I propose it's integration and with LAMS

Hi Spyros,

I've just gave BigBlue a small test and I think it's very good and looks quite nice.

For what I can see the integration shouldn't be really difficult, so this might be a good to replace Dimdim.

Looking at BligBlue architecture, it seems that is based on Red5 which we already use for video conferencing. So we could combine these two.

I'll look into this a bit more to see its feasibility but it's looking good.

Thanks very much Spyros

Hi, Ernie,

We would like to test the BigBlueButton integration with a group of 20 students but I have not the permissions to create it.

Could you please add me ( papadakis )as Course Manager in a new "# Test BigBlueButton" Group in http://demo.lamscommunity.org/lams/ server?

and 20 users' account (e.g. stud01 ... stud20 with 123 password)or I will add them.

Add and my second account (papspyr) to this Group.

Thanks

It doesn't work at all? I was under the impression that the BBB were improving their sound, so I assumed there might have been some problems .

I can't test this on my own now, but let's make some time to test this. I'll find you on skype to arrange a suitable time.

Thanks,

e

When I'm testing BBB in their public demo server there is not any problem with sound.

So I supposed there in no problem with the PC or the harsware in general.
When I call BBB from LAMS Video is working but sound not.

You will see me in skype in 15' and we can try it together.

Thanks

Hi Spyros,

Sorry it has taken me a little while to fix this issue with the audio in BBB, but now it's fixed! (see LDEV-2682).

This has now been fixed.

Can you please try this again?

You can use demo or translations.

Thanks,

Ernie

Hi Ernie,
The problem exist only with sound.

When we click "Share My Microphone" button we can not see yourself in Listeners.

Can you see yourself there?

When we try the same think in http://www.bigbluebutton.org/ demo server the sound is ok.

Hmm... let me try to reinstall this server as I recall having to choose between two options (FreeSWITCH or Asterisk) See Ubuntu instructions.

I'll let you know how I go.

Thanks,

Hi Ernie,

In the current installation are you able to use the microphone or not?

When you have reinstalled tell me to try it again.

Thanks

Hi Spyros,

I have decided to use their VMware image rather than their ubuntu installer to check the sound issue. I'll let you know how I go as soon as I test this.

Thanks,

Ernie
